Definition

First aid in the workplace is the organization of personnel, equipment, and the implementation of initial emergency measures for victims of occupational accidents or health incidents at the workplace, with the goal of sustaining life and minimizing injury before professional medical assistance arrives.

Legal Basis for Curriculum Development

• Circular No. 19/2016/TT-BYT dated June 30, 2016, by the Ministry of Health on occupational hygiene management and worker health, which stipulates requirements for first aid forces and first aid equipment at the workplace.

Course Objectives

• Provide workers and workplace first aid teams with knowledge and skills in basic first aid.

• Enable participants to recognize and promptly handle occupational accidents, occupational diseases, or workplace health incidents.

Target Audience

As stipulated in Article 9 of Circular 19/2016/TT-BYT:

• Workers, except those already holding a Safety and Occupational Hygiene Training Certificate.

• Individuals assigned to workplace first aid and emergency response teams.

Training Content

According to Appendix 6 of Circular 19/2016/TT-BYT, the training includes:

• Basic principles of first aid and on-site emergency response.

• Wound dressing: principles, equipment, and techniques.

• Temporary bleeding control techniques.

• Temporary fracture immobilization.

• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

• Burn treatment on site.

• Safe victim transport (with and without stretchers).

• First aid for electric shock, drowning, chemical-related accidents.

• Instructions on using first aid kits.

• Integrated practical exercises.

Training Duration

Initial Training:

• Workers: 4 hours.

• First aid and emergency response team: 16 hours (2 days).

Periodic Training:

• Workers: 2 hours.

• First aid and emergency response team: 8 hours (1 day).

Certificate

Participants who complete the course will receive a First Aid Training Completion Certificate as prescribed in Circular 19/2016/TT-BYT.

Validity: The certificate is valid for 1 year from the date of issue.
Scope: Recognized nationwide in accordance with occupational safety, hygiene, and occupational health regulations.
