OPITO Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader (OERTL) training is designed to provide leaders of offshore emergency response teams with the essential knowledge, comprehension, and competencies required for effective leadership in their roles.
This training program aligns with the training and assessment prerequisites for individuals assuming leadership positions in the oil and gas industry.
OPITO OERTL training encompasses real-life simulations involving smoke, fire, and emergency situations, offering a hands-on and immersive learning experience.

Delegates completing an OPITO OERTL training course must hold: A valid and in-date OPITO OERTM certificate OR OPITO OERTM Further certificate
What You'll Learn
- Gain a thorough understanding of the primary responsibilities and core priorities inherent to the role of an emergency response team leader.
- Delegate tasks to offshore emergency response team members (OERTMs) with precision and efficiency.
- Exhibit clear and confident communication skills when interacting with relevant emergency response personnel and when leading OERTMs.
- Provide direction to OERTMs for their safe entry into an incident area and continually assess how evolving emergency conditions may impact the team members’ safety.
- Conduct ongoing dynamic risk assessments throughout the course of an incident.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to signs of stress in individual OERTMs during emergency situations.
- Competently oversee the management of breathing apparatus (BA) control.
- Effectively lead an OERTM during various scenarios, encompassing non-fire incidents and firefighting operations.
- Execute missing persons and casualty management procedures proficiently in the context of an emergency.
